Need a way to avoid those tempting treats at the grocery store? Try Peapod’s online grocery delivery service!
When I go to the grocery store, I always bring home unhealthy snacks because my kids (and husband!) are crying for it or because I am shopping when hungry and convince myself that I need a bag of chips right now!
However when I used Peapod, my cart was packed full of fresh fruits, veggies, chicken, bread, etc. No treats were selected. Most likely it was the “out of sight, out of mind” theory, but I also thought about the person who would be packing my groceries. Did I want he/she to know that I am weak when it comes to Milano cookies? I didn’t want the shopper to “judge” my groceries, which I realize is slightly crazy as this person probably does not have the time to worry about what I am buying or eating. Regardless, the plan works. No treats in my house means no late-night mindless snacking.
Another perk of the service is the time saved and convenience factor. The site is very user-friendly and allows you to make lists of your favorite items for easy re-ordering. Once your order is placed, someone physically shops for you and delivers the groceries straight to your kitchen counter. As most moms can relate, shopping with kids is stressful. Anything that can reduce or eliminate that stress is worth it in my book!
The only downside for me was the delivery fee. It costs $9.95 (or $8.95 depending on your delivery option) plus an additional gas surcharge. I live only a few miles from a grocery store, the same one that uses this service actually, so this seemed a little excessive for me.
I loved the service though and can definitely see myself using it again in the future.

What an interesting idea, I had never thought that would help to stop your buying treats. If you worry about the man packing see your indulgent foods what about the person on the till when you shop – they can see you face to face!
Great idea…you always find the neatest things!

Not in my hood yet. I’m all for convenience and easy of shopping, but I love to see the produce before I buy it!

I’ve used Peapod before. The drawbacks I found are: not much choice of deli meat (and you worry about how long it was sliced before delivery); both the soda and ice cream selections are limited; and the fresh fruit is priced by the item, not per pound. So it’s expensive.
I ended up stopping because it ended up being a pain to do Peapod online, and then have to run to the store anyway!
