It is time for another installment of “One Fit Mommy”! Each week I scour the blogosphere to find other fit moms who inspire me to fitness.
This week I am excited to introduce Linda, a 40-something married mom of two teens living in suburban Chicago. Linda is a part-time Legal Assistant by day and personal trainer at most other times.
I follow Linda on Twitter and I’m always impressed by her energy and dedication to fitness. She is busy juggling two jobs/careers yet does not let that stop her from finding time to exercise. She makes fitness a priority, which is precisely why Linda is “One Fit Mommy”!
Please read on for more about Linda and be sure to visit her blog over here.
A: I’ve always worked out, but now I realize I haven’t always been fit. The thing that inspired me to finally change my ways was the day I could no longer look in the mirror–I didn’t recognize myself and I wanted to get ‘me’ back.
A: I became a trainer a few years back after having gotten myself back in fighting form. I loved it so much that I thought ‘hey, if I can do this, anyone can–and should’. I hit the books and went and got myself certified. Best thing I ever did! I want all women who are no longer in their 20’s to know that it’s never too late to be a strong, healthy woman. It empowers me to know that I can do most anything. Plus, I’m happier about myself, which helps at home. I’m stronger for my kids and my husband kinda ‘likes’ what he’s seeing.
Q: What advice do you have for moms who claim they don’t have time for exercise?
A: Stop making excuses. We all lead crazy, busy lives. I work probably a minimum of 75 hours a week and still make time to exercise. By doing so, I know I’m keeping myself healthy and happy. You schedule time to do most things, why can’t you schedule 45 minutes a few times a week for yourself to exercise?
Q: What is your favorite exercise and why?
A: I’m totally into Kettlebell training right now–love the full body effect I get from it. But squatting is definitely up there..they’re my nemesis–which is probably why I love them!
Q: Are you more of a cardio mommy or strength training mommy?
A: Used to be a huge cardio queen but..I still love running and try to do it a couple times a week. These days though I’m into strength training, but have been incorporating a lot of Valerie Waters’ RCR into my workouts as well. Puts a whole new spin on things. There’s a lot of cool exercises in there.
Q: Do you have any mental tricks that you use when you just don’t feel like working out?
A: Yup–I remember that person in the mirror..then I blast the stereo and get myself moving. Once I get through my first set, all is good. When I run, I just tell myself ‘get to [pick a spot] and then you can stop’, well of course I don’t stop until I’m done, but I play that little game many times during my runs.
A: Brooks are my shoe du jour right now. Love’em!
Thank you Linda for taking the time to share your tips with my readers. You are an inspiration to women and moms everywhere!
Get up and get moving gang, no excuses!

I really like the point about how working out doesn’t equal being fit- that’s something we don’t often give much thought to.

Wow - 75 hours of work a week and she still finds time to exercise! Now that’s proof that we can all fit it in, isn’t it?! Go Linda!

Linda’s story is inspiring!!! It didn’t “click” for me until this year……and I’m 38! I think as you get older, you see the big picture a lot more clearly.

I think as we get older, we get wiser. When we’re younger our main purpose for being fit is to look “hot”. When we’re older we go after fitness to be “healthy”. (Looking “hot” just becomes an added bonus.)
You look great, Linda! Hurray for the 40+ club!

I can relate. When I was younger I also worked out, but I really didn’t push myself.
Great guest blog post! This leaves me feeling very inspired to work out now:-)

Man, you guys are great..thank you all so much! And as much as age does bring pitfalls, it truly does bring wisdom as well. I do a lot of ‘wish I would have done that when I was younger’ thinking, but hey, I’m a work in progress!
