Jennifer Lopez completed the Nautica Malibu Triathlon on Sunday, only seven months after the birth of her twins.
She said she was inspired to do the race when she was 8 months pregnant.
“I was watching TV, and I saw a triathlon and I said, ‘You know what? I think I could do that, that would be great for me to do. Maybe I’ll do it this year,’” she explained.
Her participation in the race raised $127,000 for the Children’s Hospital of L.A.
Below is the video clip of the segment she did with Good Morning America in August.
She talks about how it is such a challenge to find the time and motivation to train, (she says they do not have nannies) but the hard work has paid off. She now has much more energy and feels so much better overall.
Jennifer also jokes that she is going to finish the race, even if it means crawling across the finish line! Fortunately, she didn’t need to resort to crawling, she proudly finished with a great smile on her face.
I definitely have to give Jennifer Lopez credit here. She committed herself to this race just after giving birth and did not give up on her goal. I’m sure there were many mornings when she didn’t feel like getting up to train, but she took the time to make it happen.
Great job J. Lo! You are definitely “One Fit Mommy”!

This is awesome. Go J-Lo! She’s not just Jenny from the block, she’s Jenny running around the blog.
Okay, so that was a little corny…lol.

cool…..I hadn’t heard about this! I remember when my twins were 6 months, I was still figuring out how to juggle them! They will be 2 this month and I am finally on a good exercise routine. She’s an inspiration to us mommies

I am not a fan of J.Lo at all. However, I do think it’s great that she found the motivation and persistence to complete the race.
I have just begun training for my next triathlon next year.

I am not a huge fan of hers, but have to admire her persistance! Definitely don’t think I could finish a triathlon.
Children’s hospital is a great cause….I was in the Washington D.C. Children’s Hospital a few times when I was young, and always donate to their Christmas drive. Just a little way of saying “thanks!”

but here’s my question: I know she’s inspiring but doesn’t this also have the capability of making other (regular, non-celeb) new moms feel badly about themselves because they’re still exhausted and stressed and haven’t lost the baby weight? I’m not a mom so I can say, but even as a non-mom, I feel like J Lo running a triathalon afer birthing twins makes me feel lazy.

A few months ago I WOULD have felt badly about myself after reading this (I have 2 kids), but now I think, in all honesty, that some people simply have more energy than others, and she is one of them. Even before her pregnancy she was involved in a bunch of different things: acting, recording, touring, creating perfumes, opening a restaurant. It takes a lot of energy and a lot of organization to do that, and I’m just not that type of person, lol!
We could all probably think of someone we know who just has loads of energy. (I do think they are the exception, rather than the rule.)
(I saw an interview with Meryl Streep recently, and she was asked how she found the energy to do all the physical stuff she did in “Mama Mia.” She said she’s always been energetic, and when she wasn’t working she would drive her family crazy (including her FOUR kids) with her manic energy.
Yeah. SO not me, lol!)
Good for her. On the triathlon AND on the birth of her twins!
(Sorry if this post is rambling. I’m a little tired, lol!)
weighting game: yes, I can definitely see that as well. For me, it made me very jealous that she has such a supportive hubby–who is willing to watch the babies while she trains. I *think* that might be an issue for a lot of moms—we just aren’t given the opportunity to take care of ourselves.
what do you think gang, am I totally off base?
alyssa, that is a good point as well. I have a few friends that seem to have endless amounts of energy and get way more done in 2 hours than I do all day long!
Wow…at 8 months pregnant planning on running was the LAST thing on my mind!
I dunno, there’s something about her that just rubs me the wrong way.
Either way, she did better than I could do, so good for her!

Kudos to JLo. But let’s call a spade a spade. Many of us would be stepping the fitness up a notch with personal trainers, chefs and round the clock nannies. That being said, she didn’t pay anyone to run the race for her. Here’s a treat for the moms out there. I’m sponsoring a contest with lucy activewear giving away two adorable lucy Breast Cancer Awareness tees. Here’s the link to check it out:

Im not a big JLo fan.
in such a bigbadway (I know. I know.( that I dont believe her about the nannies.
blasphemy.
I KNOW!
MizFits last blog post..Viewer Mail. Subtitle: That depends on what your definition of average is.
I’m thrilled she did it if for no other reason than to take the focus off of “look how I starved myself after giving birth,” that celebrities typically do and to show other women it can be done. But I do know “getting it done” is a lot harder than she made it seem and wish we had heard more about the juggling motherhood and training as we did about her training. Cuz weren’t we all thinking, how is she doing it?
