I received a box of Weight Watchers Golden Sponge Cakes in the mail the other day, and I must say they are sinfully delicious.
It has been years since I have eaten a Hostess Twinkie, but if my memory serves me correctly, these taste just the same.
The good news? Only 100 calories per snack cake. (If you are following the Weight Watchers program, they are only 1 POINT® per cake.)
The bad news? They are TINY! Be prepared to practice portion control here as I easily could have eaten the whole box. They also contain some of the bad stuff we know we shouldn’t be eating, but if you need something to satisfy that sweet craving, these hit the spot with relatively little impact.
The best news? Three lucky readers will get a coupon for a FREE Weight Watchers snack item!
Leave me a comment telling me what sweet treat from your childhood you would love to see made into a Weight Watchers sensible choice item.
Enter by 9pm EST on Monday, September 8. The winners will be picked at random and notified via email.
Was it Ring Dings? Devil Dogs? Ho-Ho’s? What was your favorite?

I guess being small forces you to eat it and savor it a bit more.
We look at all of those weight watch3rs products in the store and my wife also buys those “100 calorie” snacks that you see as well on Biggest Loser…can’t remember the brand at the moment

I have to agree with Ali. Definitely nutter butters. I love them. They are just too good. I would definitely have to practice portion control. LOL!

Well, I’d be anxious to try these only because my daughter wanted to try the real deal, so I purchased a box. Didn’t taste anything like the twinkies I remember as a kid. So I wonder if they changed the formula or if my taste buds changed. Well, who knows. I’ll give it a try. As for my childhood sweet treat, zingers!

Hmm, I’d love to have moon pies in a more calorie friendly form! Honestly though most of the ‘diet’ food alternatives end up tasting pretty nasty.

Little Debbie Swiss Rolls or Fudge Rounds.
September 5th, 2008 at 9:44 am
I loved Moon Pies and Little Debbies! Of course there is the homemade rice crispy treats, too. So many (sugar) memories reading these posts.
September 5th, 2008 at 10:02 am
oooh, fudge rounds! Forgot about those too!
September 5th, 2008 at 10:04 am
AsktheDietician–that brings up a great point. There are many foods that I loved as a kid but cannot stand right now. Do the formulas change or is it us? hmmm….future post idea, thanks!

Swiss Cake Rolls! Remember those? I used to peel off the layer of chocolate, and then unroll them and scoop out the white cream with my finger.
Yum!

Star Crunch–anyone else remember those. Moon pies a close second. But per those WW twinkies–are they also so heavily laden with preservatives that they will stay in tact for centuries ( a la Wall-E?).

100 calories? That rocks! Even if it is tiny
I LOVED Swiss Cake Rolls (still do), Star Crunch, and Moon Pies. Heck, anything from that Little Debbie girl is such a treat.

I read this and had to go buy a box and when I tried them and thought they were too sweet.
I think I’ve not eaten anything so sugary in a while so my taste has been reset. I would like to see nutter butters in a 100 calorie treat form. I don’t know if I’d really like them now, but as a kid they were my favorite snack.

Definitely Ho-Ho’s! Although I haven’t had them in years. As a kid I could eat a whole bunch of them at once - so my inclination might be to have more than one. So, if I have to practice portion control, I might as well just eat the real deal.
I haven’t thought about those in a long time…now I’m craving one (or 2).
Why did I read this blog? Now I’ve got a problem … Ho-Ho’s come in a two-pack don’t they? There’s no way I can bring a box home.

I adore cookies and used to love love love eating Dad’s Oatmeal Chocolate Chip Cookies and Oreo Cookies. But my favourite treat of all time was the seasoned silver bag sunflower seeds. I think they would make me sick if I ate them now because they’d be too salty for me. But when I was a kid I could really pack them away!

I was never allowed to have any of that when I was a child (hence my total freak out toward junk food as an adult). I think of the hostess variesty, didn’t they have Zingers? I liked those.

HoHos - loved those things….it has been years since I have had one and perhaps I shouldn’t even indulge as it would send me over the edge to eat them again!!

I’d have to go with ho-ho’s — I loved peeling off the layers of chocolate. It made a mess all over, but it was my heaven!
