Last week I asked you “What is your favorite activity?”

The results surprised me a bit:

  • While the majority of you like to run and/or walk, several people left comments that they love Turbo Kick and kick boxing.

I really had no idea this was so popular and have to admit that I have never been a fan. I always feel like a flailing moron during class and end up leaving with a feeling of defeat instead of empowerment.

This was many years ago though, so after reading your enthusiastic replies, I am going to give it another chance kick.

  • I thought there would be more votes for swimming.

I understand, it’s not my favorite either. Flailing moron also describes my swimming technique. It is such an excellent low impact, full body workout though. I want need to start swimming. Perhaps Michael Phelps could pay me a visit and offer a lesson or two?

  • We love our cardio.

The reality is that we need to learn to love our strength training more. It will not bulk us up, but rather it will REV us up and turn us into calorie burning machines. Who doesn’t want that?

What surprised me most?

  • Only 49 people voted!

There are at least 398 subscribers here (see that neat box in the right hand corner, what number does it say today?))

Hello? Where is everyone? You can’t all be on vacation, can you?

What is your favorite activity?
Running/walking 59.2% 29

Biking 12.2% 6

Other 12.2% 6

Lifting weights 10.2% 5

Swimming 6.1% 3

total votes: 49

It’s not too late to be counted gang. Visit the original post here, so that your voice is heard. Inquiring minds want to know!

After you vote, get up and be active. No excuses!

Only 49? Hmmm….
I could not agree with you more. Cardio while fun (mostly) and very healthy can only do so much. Adding weight training is where one gets shape the body. I have learned to love weights for that reason.

As for Turbokick, I must say it takes a while. The moves are essentially the same, just combined differently depending on the round you are working on. So after a while, one starts looking more coordinated. Give it a chance for one month. You’ll feel good after that.

I finally voted for biking, which I love, but it was a complicated decision because I would have chosen running, except that I had to stop running about 4 years ago due to an ankle injury flaring up.

I also love swimming, but not pool swimming. I have taken up open-water swimming in Humboldt Bay, a few minutes from where I live. I walk right over to the dock in my wetsuit. I’m the only swimmer I see out there because it’s a semi-industrial bay with a wood chip mill in the distance, oyster boats, fishing boats, skullers and seals. To me, all the variety adds to the sense of intrigue and adventure.

I really enjoy your blog, and I’m not even a mommy right now (though I raised my now- mid-thirties stepdaughter). I get ideas and inspiration from active moms, who I consider the ultimate role-models.

I’m surprised that the swimming isn’t higher either…I know I, for one, am hecka motivated to get in the pool. (If I swim like Phelps, then I can eat an ENTIRE pizza?!)

And, yes, the Web is quiet this week. Cricket. Cricket. :)

Whoa – only 10% voted for lifting weights, huh? Maybe it’s everyone’s SECOND favorite! ;)

P.S. I left you an award on my blog today – smiles!

Louisa, thanks for reading! How exciting that you swim in the Bay! That is very inspirational to me.

and I’ve had to give up running because of an injury too. It is very depressing, but I’m happy that I can still be active in other ways.

I probably do more cardio then anything else, but I like weightlifting more, so that’s what I voted for!

Lisa, if you school us just a bit more on kettlebells, maybe we’ll vote for IT next time! Seriously, I was in Dick’s looking at them but am just not there yet! I’m so afraid of dropping one on my toe!

Glad to hear you will try Turbo Kick/kick boxing again. I think the Turbo Kick class was easier for me because I had done the Turbo Jam in home workouts for almost 2 years before we joined the gym. My Wed. night instructor has the new Turbo Kick round and it’s a doozy. I’m having a hard time learning it but I know I’ll get there.

I love kickboxing and yoga…for different reasons. Kickboxing is fun and lets me get out all of my aggression. Yoga feels good and brings me peace. Where is yoga/pilates in your poll?

I prefer swimming laps and lifting weights. Now that I’m married and have kids, I no longer play full-court basketball. I just can’t take a chance on getting injured.

By the way, how about those Pirates!

East Carolina University takes down the Hokies of Virginia Tech, 22-27, baby!

GO PIRATES!

It’s not so much the activity, but rather that I’m not doing the same exercise too many days in a row or I get bored. Honestly that’s why I liked triathlon training so much because every day is a different sport!
