Life is going faster than I am able to handle right now. I’m always in a hurry, lists never get completed, friends and family get neglected, and there is just never enough time in the day.
Just as I am at my breaking point, I get The Shavasana CD from Letsdoyoga.com in the mail.
Shavasana is known as corpse pose in Yoga and should be done while lying down in a quiet room.
“The ancient practice of yogic rest opens the door to deep relaxation, peace and well-being”.
I resisted at first, wondering how I would find time for yet another action item. Then I realized, just as with my fitness program, I need to find the time.
I need to slow my pace down, relax a little lot more and give my mind a break.
The CD guides you through 4 different Shavasana experiences, this one was by far my favorite:
Beach Shavasana
Imagery of a warm sunny day on a beautiful white sand beach combine with the kinesthetic sensations of gentle undulating tides rolling over your body massage away tensions, leaving you peaceful and at ease. Break the cycle of stress and enjoy a mini-vacation for your mind and body.
When it ended I felt refreshed, renewed, and relaxed. I even felt sandy! The Shavasana CD is just what the doctor ordered.
Just as we take care of our bodies, we can’t forget to take care of our minds.
When was the last time you set aside time for deep relaxation? If you cannot remember, it is definitely time to do so!

I feel the rush of life, as well. And have been debating in my mind if I need to do something (meditation, reading, etc). Yoga I had not considered. A relaxing form of yoga does sound like a great alternative.
We see our bodies, and so I think it easier to take care of them (I workout, eat right, and my body looks better). Our minds we don’t see – and so it’s easier to neglect. Thanks for the reminder!

It’s hard not to get caught up in the go, go, go of life. But, I find that when I do pause and take a break it pays me back ten-fold. I’ve never tried these CDs, but I’ll do mindful breathing or some quick yoga. Does wonders for the soul (and body)!

Today is so appropriate for me to read this. I need, at a minimum, to take a few deep breaths. Thanks for the reminder.

Shavasana is the absolute best part of a hard yoga class. A whole CD devoted to it? priceless!

My weekly hour of pilates is definitely “me” time- but am also planning on just RELAXING this coming Sunday. I don’t have to work on Monday (yay Labor Day!) so won’t worry about getting my s**t together for the coming week. I am soooo looking forward to it!

I always seem to find that whenever I choose a relaxation time, that someone else in the house, (be it spouse, child or dog) needs to interrupt. Either I need to find a new place that they don’t know about or schedule this time when they’re all asleep.
