Pushup challenge update

by workoutmommy on July 7, 2008

It’s Monday gang, which means it is time to shake off the weekend and get moving!

onehundred125x125Today’s challenge? Pushups! If you haven’t already done so, I encourage you to sign up for the 100 pushup challenge.

I jumped into this challenge three weeks ago and have seen a considerable increase in the number of full body pushups I can perform. (started with 5, now I can do 17!)

Week 3 was very challenging for me, so I have decided to hold myself back and repeat it. I want to focus on quality pushups with perfect form, so I think an extra week will give me the chance to build the strength that I need.

Here is my plan for today:

  • 15 pushups, rest for 60 seconds (or more)
  • 12 pushups, rest for 60 seconds (or more)
  • 12 pushups, rest for 60 seconds (or more)
  • 10 pushups, rest for 60 seconds (or more)
  • Max! 15 pushups or more

That gives me a total of 64+ pushups for today, which is a great way to start a Monday, yes? (Yes!)

On top of this, I plan to do 45 minutes on the spin bike for a cardio workout as well.

How about you gang? What is your fitness plan today?
No excuses!

This challenge is kicking my butt!! Pushups are still hard for me and I am not getting as close to the ground as I’d like, but I have good form so I hope that helps. I have to start week 3 this week.

Great job on your push ups.

My fitness plan for the day is Turbo Kick class tonight. Our gym had a special Spin class on Friday, a 60 min. ride and then hubby and I did our regular spin classes on Sat. and Sun. I’m aching but I really don’t want to miss TK tonight so I’ll push through it. I actually have TK class Monday-Wednesday and Thurs. is my day off. I’m really looking forward to that!

Have a great week

After tweaking the challenge here and there for my fitness level, I am really excelling- it is awesome! I repeated week 1 and reassessed yesterday for week 3 and am well on my way. I am loving this challenge and hearing about the progress of others.

I’m starting Week Four of the push ups today! And I think I’m going to do one of the 30 day shred workouts. Its kinda rainy out and I really wanted to go for a bikeride but maybe I’ll go for a walk instead and that way it won’t be quite so perilously slippery:)

Ahh, pushups – we’ve been doing way too many of them in the Boot Camp class I’m taking! And that’s what I will be doing for a workout tonight – going to get my booty kicked in boot camp. ;)

Rock on! Thanks for writing about this because I almost forgot to do mine!

I’m repeating Week 2 of the challenge. Last week I just couldn’t make it work. So, off I go — I’m also running 3-4 times and walking with baby 3-4 times. Hope to get them all in before the heat takes over.

Thanks for the reminder of the push-up challenge! I keep forgetting to sign up for it! Probably because I know it’s gonna kick my a**.
I’ll be combining weights and cardio later today, and maybe taking the kids swimming.

I am completely intimidated by Week 3!! I think I may have to resort to the modified for at least part of it…but I will do Week 3, Day 1 today.

I’m also doing a weight routine today from Fitness magazine.

Great Job! Push Ups are fantastic. I complete them in sets of 10 during my rests on Leg Strength Training Days. It usually ends up around 110 to 120! The last 10 being a tough ending to the routine.

I just got back from the Gym and completed Shoulders/Traps/Legs/Abs Strength Training Routine (I combined two days for missing them over the weekend) and 20 minutes on the Rowing machine with 20 sec sprints every 40 sec.

I’m not looking to be able to do anywhere near 100 pushups, but I’ve been thinking I need to follow a specific program in order to build up to the 10 I want to do by Labor Day. I’m going to print out the schedule!
