My toddler who loves juice boxes, despite my best attempts to keep him away from them. I usually don’t buy them, but whenever we go on play dates or to Grandma’s house, they are always offered and happily slurped down. I know they are filled with sugar and high fructose corn syrup, so I cringe each time he drinks one. There must be a better option, right?
Yes, that better option is called Froose! Froose is a nutritious whole food drink that is a combination of whole grains and 100% fruit juice. It was developed by a Denise Devine, a concerned mom who wanted a healthier juice alternative for her children. She worked with food scientists at The International Food Network at Cornell and came up with this “drinkable snack” .
Here are some of the reasons why Froose is a better choice:
- it has half the sugar found in a typical serving of juice
- it is sweetened with organic brown rice syrup, a complex carbohydrate, (which means no sugar highs and no empty calories)
- it is a great source of fiber, 3 grams in one box!
- it is gluten-free
- it is made with all natural whole food ingredients
Most importantly though, is that it tastes GREAT! I drank ‘Perfect Pear’ and it tasted exactly like a pear. It was delicious!
Now instead of cringing when my little guy drinks his Froose, I instead wonder if he is going to let me have a sip. (probably not!) That is okay, I’ll just get my own box!
Froose is perfect for these hot summer days. You can read all more about it and place orders here.
Many thanks to Denise for sending me Froose! We love it!

Oh thats cool. The amount of sugar is really impressive! I’ve seen containers of PLAIN yogurt with twice that amount of sugar in one serving. Am so glad that there’s healthier choices of juice boxes like this!

Cool idea but I’m not sold. a) the price is exorbitant. You can find 100% (with NO added sweeteners) juice for much, much cheaper. Even organic. b) what’s with the added rice syrup? Why does juice need to be sweetened at all? It’s fruit! That said, it is a far cry better than your average Capri Sun:)

Yes! I will have to go check this out.
We give our little man a homemade version for his juice bottle, and it is watered down, half and half, so he isn’t consuming too much juice. We also mix a green food powder, so he is getting all of his vitamins and minerals.
But I do love the fact that these healthy versions are becoming more and more available at the stores. My question is, where is Froose available? Do you have to go into a health food store, or can you get it at any grocery stores? (We usually shop at Kroger.)

Wow I would have loved to have this 7 years ago when my son was hooked on apple juice. He never drank juice full strength and luckily now he is a milk and water lover.
The website for Froose is a fun and educational site. I couldn’t get the order page to load but will keep trying. I want to try this for my morning drink when I don’t have raw milk on hand. Thanks for the great info.

Excellent — thanks for the tip. My little guy was given a taste of juice on vacation last week and he loved it. This sounds like something I could actually say yes to!
