The vacation is over. The memories were made, the sand castles were built, and the ice cream was eaten. (Oh, how the ice cream was eaten!)
So now what?
It is back to reality with a vengeance.
Here is my post-vacation recovery plan.
Sensible diet
Issue: Coming off a week long free for all of cookies, ice cream and other treats. Ugh.
Plan: The focus will be on eating a minimum of 3 servings of fruits and 3 servings of vegetables every single day. If I am tempted by junk, then I need to remember my ABC plan.
Reduce the Diet Pepsi
Issue: I consume mass quantities of this drink. Aside from being expensive, it is also full of chemicals that are doing who knows what to my system. I find that when drinking diet soda, I really crave salty foods, such as fries or chips. Does anyone else have this issue?
Plan: Cut back to two cans a day. (and yes, this is a major reduction for me!)
Exercise
Issue: I’m a cardio-aholic. I love to run and bike but sometimes I slip into a comfort zone while doing them and the activity becomes too easy. I need a challenge and changing up my standard workouts is just what the trainer has ordered! (everyone should change their workout routine every so often–challenge yourself gang!) This is also necessary due to the current condition of my foot.
Plan: Three days a week of full body strength training. (dare I dream to have arms like MizFit?)
Stress:
Issue: I realized over the past week that I waste too much time worrying over things that are really not that important. (so what if the pantry is a mess, who really cares other than me?)
Plan: I will take at least 15 minutes each day to do something relaxing, either some gentle yoga or just reading a book. I am worth 15 minutes!
It is all about choices in life and I am choosing to make small changes for better results.
How about you gang, what changes are you making these days?
and one more thing…have you been active today? I hope so!

I think I am going to copy this idea for a post- been thinking about something along these lines and this is perfect!
I am a total cardio-aholic as well and need to make a plan for strength training.
Oh, and the ABC plan is pretty much why I started reading this blog- it still makes me laugh.

VERY useful. Even when you’re just at home, in the middle of summer its easy to derail for the weekend or a week (the ice cream! the lazy beaches! its all so tempting!). Great plans- and I love that you’re not overdoing it (like cutting out the diet pepsi completely), because taking it one step at a time works so much better.

Good for you for getting back on track so soon after your vacation … it took me a month to get back into a groove. I totally relate to a lot of them.
I find that if I try to look at it as upping my water intake rather than reducing my caffiene (coffee and Diet Coke) intake, I’m more successful. I guess it’s less of a forbidden fruit aspect. In fact, I threw away 1/4 of a can of Diet Coke today because I just didn’t want it any more.

hannah–I even sing a song while I’m getting my apple. It’s embarrassing, but effective!
sagan–so very true. I could not go cold turkey on the DP!
Fitarella–thanks!
slacker–good idea with upping the water. I will try that too!
When I wanted to cut back on sodas, I started drinking sparkling water, such as Calistoga or Perrier. Still has more sodium than would be ideal, but it makes me feel as if I’m drinking a soda — especially if I add a little lemon juice to the glass.
I /wish/ I could turn off the automatic worrying faucet. You’re right; most of the time you’re the only one who’ll ever care about the pantry (or whatever).

I admire you for having a plan. And cutting back on the diet Pepsi can only be a good thing!
I am having a pity party for myself today and using the excuse that it’s a rest day. Tomorrow I will get back on track and get some exercise. At least I’m not wallowing in the potato chip bag….with an ice cream chaser!

I’m still attempting to recover from vacation. It’s hard to revisit the reality of dirty dishes and constant attention grabbing toddlers (in a good way of course!) without the assistance of my MOM!
My new focus is to replace all shakes with smoothies and keep it to one a week! For the summer, that’s a big deal for me.
You’re kid reminds me of mine. Is that some nice Thomas underwear and a Cars shirt? Our kids have the same costume. Why is that boys always end up in their underwear- all the time?
I was actually getting emotional tonight because both my boys played quietly on a puzzle, magnet games, for like 20 minutes. Then, I walked out the door, 2.5 seconds to a hair pulling brawl.
Yes, My house is a mess. Rather read blogs!
Try the foam roller at bathtime- works great on sore muscles.

Hi Lisa,
Good call on cutting back the diet Pepsi. It’ll be hard at first but if you replace what you are missing with water you should be alright. I used to drink 2 liters of the regular stuff a day.
Sounds like a solid plan. Keep us posted
