Just flip, sip and go!

by workoutmommy on May 16, 2008

One must love the power of the internet. Camelbak sent me a replacement bottle in response to this post.

I cannot express just how much I love this bottle! It is called the Better Bottle and with good reason. It has the bite valve so you do not have to tip the bottle to drink, although if you prefer that, you can just remove the straw inside and tip away! It does not spill, no matter how hard my son tries to do so.

Best of all though is the fact that all of their bottles are now BPA free! They are clearly marked with a “BPA free” sticker, so do not purchase a bottle without this sticker. (stores might still be carrying old inventory)

Don’t race out to buy one just yet though because I have a brand new Better Bottle to give away to one lucky reader! Just leave a comment telling me a sign or symptom of dehydration. Visit Propel’s better hydration fact sheet for more information.

The contest is open to US addresses only and will end at 9pm EST on May 21st.

**WINNER is #6,  Hannah.   Thanks to all who entered!***

Comment away gang and don’t forget to be active today!

Fatigue, nausea….but could also mean you’re pregnant. Here’s hoping for simple dehydration.

I sure would be way more cool than Rose and Dorothy with that water bottle!

My fave sign of deyhdration is dark colored urine. You wouldn’t believe the analyses I go through with my urine color. Wow, I just realized how sad that is.

The one I seem to deal with is a headache.

Sweet! They’re BPA free now? I may have to go get a new one, since the little tab on mine broke months ago.

I always know I’m dehydrated when my urine is dark yellow (although that may be all the coffee). Also, I will start feeling really sluggish and foggy in the brain.

I saw these in the store and have been meaning to read up on them. I need to replace the bottles I threw out!

As far as signs, I know being thirsty means you are already dehydrated.

I think I’m always a little dehydrated: dry mouth, not going to the bathroom, dark urine…Sure could use a replacement for my Camelbak as well.

Thanks for the contest.

A headache is one of the first symptoms, I am aware of. We hike in CO every year, and that little nagging headache tells you – HYDRATE. This bottle would be great, as I am trying to get back into my walking routine.

Since I’m pretty much always foggy in the brain, I have to look at my urine (good news, Charlotte, you’re not the only one, lol!). I was always told to “drink until you pee pale.”

There’s a mantra!

Dehydration really shows on your skin, if you pinch yourself and the skin stays that way instead of just snapping back (?), it means you’re dehydrated

I was teaching a spinning class and was on antibiotics and almost passed out from dehydration. I should know better. Anyway, headache.

Love these bottles.

Thanks,

Very cool! I like this bottle! :)

Adding to the signs of dehydration: besides a dry mouth, you may get dry skin.
More advanced signs of dehydration is tingling/numbness in limbs.

Dry mouth is one indicator. I always am extra thirsty when I’m nursing my daughter…

P.S. This bottle looks fantastic and I love that it’s BPA-free!

Great contest, thanks! :) Dehydration – for me that’s simple, I feel thirsty. I normally drink 100oz of clean water a day so if I feel thirsty I’m dehydrated – otherwise I’m drinking enough so that I don’t get to that point of thirst.

Dark colored urine…fatigue…thirst….
Does that count for 3 entries? :)
Great contest idea, especially this time of year!

As said by others, my biggest sign is dark color urine. I really try to make it as pale as possible. Thirst is actually one of the later signals and I try to avoid it too.

Love the bottle.

For me, I feel hungry if I have not drank enough water, so before heading for the food, I try to drink about 8-10 oz and THEN see if I still feel hungry….most times not.

Does that count as as sign for dehydration??

Thirst, fatigue…plus, did you know that as little as 2% dehydration can cause a drop in endurance? Well, now we all do!

Light-headedness! When I first started doing “speed” workouts at the track, I’d start getting all dizzy and want to pass out. Lesson learned – EAT and DRINK before going!!

Angie May 18, 2008 at 8:54 am

Dehydration makes your workout feel harder. I definitely can tell when I have not had enough water. I drink about 96-100oz of water pretty much every day but on the days I don’t I can totally tell. This bottle looks like a winner. Thanks

If you (gently) pull up the skin on the back of your hand into a little “tent”, and it does not snap back down, but rather stays creased for a few seconds, that means you need to go bite your new Camelbak and get some fluids goin’, chica!! Thanks for the great blog. Hope I win! Cheers, Bonnie

Wow…so glad to hear Camel-Bak now have bpa free bottles. I had to throw mine and my daughter’s away. As for dehydration, I have many of the other readers’ symptoms: headaches, dry mouth, dry skin and dark yellow urine. Also as a nursing mom, I get less milk when I pump. Staying hydrated takes on a new level of importance–I need to feed that little one as much as possible so I need to make sure I always have something to drink near by.

Besides just being thirsty I have heard that if you pinch the skin on your elbow and it does not bounce back you are dehydrated.

I love that they are making BPA free water bottles!
