Have you done your burpies today?

by workoutmommy on April 23, 2008

Need a new challenging exercise to throw into your day? Try doing some burpies, which are also known as squat thrusts. When done correctly, they will jack up your heart rate and help build upper body and core strength. No equipment is necessary and they can be done anywhere and anytime. There really is no excuse for NOT doing this exercise!

Here is an excellent how-to clip that I found on YouTube. I really like how the demonstrator gives an option for those who might need it. (I also got a big kick out of his shoes!)

Check it out and then try them out for yourself.

Don’t forget to come back and let me know how many you did and how much fun they were. My goal is to do 25 of these today.
No excuses gang, no excuses!

Those are like the move in yoga where you go from forward bend and jump back to plank. I will add those to my routine today. And try to get up to 25.

If you really ‘love’ burpees’ try doing a pushup while you are down there each time and a jump once you are standing. I have a love/hate relationship with these. I love them once I am done.

I can’t think of a single exercise i detest more than burpies! Which probably means they are really good for me… sigh. So, yeah, I do them.

That’s a good demonstration of them! They’re tough, though (25 is awesome!). I’m always concerned about getting the technique right.

Stephanie–lol! no shame in that, he is an excellent demonstrator! (hello, hamstrings anyone?)

Laine-welcome and you are right about it being similar to yoga! This is for those who think yoga is easy…

mizfit-it’s much more fun to watch than to do!

nancy–great tip. I will try..but can’t promise anything.

charlotte, sagan, and angie: I did my 25 but I was sucking serious wind and swearing by the end. Good thing my little one can’t talk yet!

KFJ–I will have to check out this dvd. I need Jillian!

He doesn’t do it in the video, but most of the time I have seen burpies, there is a jump at the standing position. Oy! Definitely crazy, my trainer always threatens us with Tabata Burbies, and we have to pay in burpies for left-behind-cups 1 cup = 5 burpies. One month we racked up 100! Talk about a warm up. :)

Holy mother…I just did 15 and that sucked. But they rock, so I will do more. Thanks for finding the video!

You know, I have NEVER done those! I keep hearing about them though, and I’m sure they’re effective. Gotta add that to my routine…
