How are you going to spring into fitness?

by workoutmommy on March 7, 2008

Spring is right around the corner gang and I am READY to get outside again and play, are you?

This Sunday we spring forward for daylight savings time which means longer days and hopefully warmer weather. Here are some ways that I plan to increase my activity level once winter has finally left the building.

  • An early morning walk or run: Do you have a little one (or ones) that likes to get up early and is so full of energy you can hardly stand it? It sounds like a perfect opportunity for you to greet the morning together. Get up and out the door before anything gets in the way of your plan. Throw in a handful of push ups when you get back and you are off to a great start on your busy day.
  • Jumping rope: While the kids are playing in the driveway or backyard, it is the perfect opportunity for you to jump rope. It entertains the kids (and neighbors) and it lets you squeeze in some extra activity while on mom duty.
  • Soccer sprints: These are a great way to get sweaty! Kick the ball across the yard and then sprint to get it. Do several of them in a row and don’t forget to let your little one “win”!
  • Track practice: Take the kids up to the local school track and let them chase you while you run laps.
  • Monkey bars: Want to look great in the sleeveless tops this summer? Then conquer those monkey bars at the park! I am going to make it all the way across this year, even if my belly hangs out of my shirt as I am doing it!
  • Hiking: I don’t live in a part of the country that has great scenery but I would like to get the whole family involved in physical activity, so I am going to put some local hikes on our weekend calendar.
  • Post dinner walk or run: Extra sunlight means extra time after dinner to enjoy the great outdoors. My shoes will be eagerly waiting for me by the door.

Now it is your turn, what plans do you have to become more active this spring? and have you been active TODAY? I hope so!

I can ride my bike in the evenings! We can take the kids to the playground after dinner! The pool will be open again! Woo-hoo!

Plus, assuming I pass my certification training this weekend, I’ll be teaching pilates! Anyone who lives in the Bay Area, come check out the Peninsula JCC; that’s where I’ll be!

An evening bike ride. I am so looking forward to getting on my bike again and relaxing and having fun. I love the extra light in the evenings.

I admit i am a cardio junkie so i really am going to try to do strength training three times a week. Its werid but i need to do it in a class. I deel so awkward just doing it at home or in the gym. Sadly, i sorta teetered off my weight training class because they arr always in the evening when i am in culinary school (not that whisking and kneading aren’t workouts!). So i am really going to try to pick up those weights this spring.
