I’m curious gang, what is your favorite piece of gym equipment?
Most of you probably think mine is the treadmill, but it actually isn’t. I do love running, but not inside. I do it only when I have to, not because I want to. So when I plan on a workout other than running, my torture device equipment piece of choice is this one:
Look familiar?
It is called the step mill and it is awesome! I love it so much that when someone else is using it, I am actually disappointed! (sad, but true!)
I lovingly refer to it as the ‘escalator to nowhere’ because that is exactly what you feel like when you are on this thing.
Maybe you have seen it lurking in the far corner of your gym and wondered what it is all about? Well, grab your water and towel because you are going to sweat like there is no tomorrow. Do not be fooled by it’s sleek design and seemingly innocent steps because this machine will crush you! It starts off slowly and before you know it, the steps are disappearing faster than you can blink and you have transformed into a stair-climbing maniac! Sounds fun, yes?
Trust me on this one, you want to start off very slow. Get a feel for the steps before cranking up the power. I often watch people jump on this thing without abandon and end up in a puddle about 5 minutes later. As with all new workouts, pace yourself and be aware.
The step mill is my favorite because it always challenges my legs and gets my heart rate pumping. I usually do speed intervals of 1-2 minutes each just to keep things different. The bottom line is that this workout is never boring and will burn a bundle of calories. It gives me more bang for my buck, as far as I am concerned.
So tell me, what is your favorite piece of equipment (either cardio or strength) and why?
Doesn’t just thinking about it make you want to be active right now?
Do not fight the urge gang, get up and get moving!

I LOVE LOVE LOVE the Precor CrossRamp!! It’s an elliptical and stair climber all in one!

I love the elliptical machine. It feels like I’m on a rollercoaster ride. :o) Quick question, you know how the machine tells you how many calories you’ve burned, is that really accurate? Just curious.
I’ve been wanting to try this machine that you wrote about. It seems intimidating….glad you wrote about it. Maybe I’ll give it a shot.

Honestly, I prefer spin classes to machines. I tend to push myself harder in a class setting. My second favorite piece of workout equipment are my running shoes! I like to keep it really simple.

That really looks like an evil machine. I love my elliptical as it really feels like I haven’t worked out when I’m done.

I gotta vote for the elliptical too. I ride it improperly and bounce up and down, which makes me look like a dork but then it feels more like playground equipment than exercise.
Unless I can count the nice warm shower at the end of the workout as a piece of gym equipment? If so, then I change my vote.

My favorite is the Elliptical, although I have been focusing on the treadmill to imitate running lately. Otherwise, I’d be sitting on the Elliptical and enjoying every minute of it until I feel that tingling, numb feeling in my toes. Then it looks like I’m doing this hop and skip thing while I try to get the blood back down there!
Oh, I can’t stand the Stairs to No Where. It and the Stepper are my worst enemies! I avoid them with a passion.

the stepmill is my fave, too! I love working up a huge sweat while I read/plow through a vapid US Weekly and get off feeling so good and accomplished (even though, as you said, I was walking stairs to nowhere.) I have to remind myself to keep my posture - one of my pet peeves is when people climb on stairclimbers/machines and turn their arms inside out, lock their elbows and wrists and support all of their weight instead of using their legs. Ouch!

Eek! I’d have to say that piece of equipment does scare me a little (and no, I’ve never been on it). But yes, it certainly does look like a good workout!
