There is nothing better for a workout than a little bit of competition.

Expresso Fitness has developed a web-enabled exercise bike that according to their website:

includes a high-end computer system that is continuously updated with new features, music and courses. In addition, it allows each individual to ride with a configurable Pacer, compete real-time against their previous performance using a unique “Ghost” ride function and view their rank among riders across the country using Expresso Leader Boards.

With Expresso’s interactive systems you can personalize your ride experience, gauge your progress, then check your fitness results on the Web at www.expresso.net.

So basically you get to compete against others while you are working out, without actually having to leave your house or enter a race! I know that I always workout harder when competition is thrown into the mix, so the fact that this is now available on an exercise bike is a definite plus!

The other bonus would be that it would get my husband to enjoy exercising. I know it might be hard to believe, but Workout Daddy does not actually workout! He is not a fan of exercise and considers it to be a dreadful chore that is forced in his life. Some of you might be able to relate to the fact that he finds it just plain boring.

The Expresso bikes definitely take care of the boredom issue though. Each bike has:

Like everything else on Expresso bikes, selecting the TV option is a simple as pressing a button. Use the numeric keypad or the up/down channel keys on the keypad to select a channel. Volume control is just as easy. The video is overlaid with your workout data so you can track your workout while you watch.”

So why don’t I have one yet? Cost, of course. They are not cheap and as much as I am tempted to spend my kids’ college fund on the bikes, I just cannot do it. The good news though is that Gold’s Gym is going to start putting these bikes in their gyms, so if you are a Gold’s member, be on the lookout.

If you have seen them around, shoot me an email and let me know what you think and if they are as fun as they sound.

I’m hopping on my regular bike today to work up a sweat while imagining the competition next to me.
How about you? What activity are you going to do today?

Girl, I have fallen so far off the wagon…I am back to start again. I won’t even bother with my excuses, they are just excuses. I gotta get back on track!

Wow, what a cool concept. I want one of those, but for now, I’ll just have to stick to my pedometer.

    Walked 14,274 steps yesterday………Not too bad…….:)

They have these at our Y. I’m not a big fan of bikes, but these do look pretty neat. I know, I’m one of those people that are scared of that Cycling class. One of these days, I’ll get in there just because you said it’s awesome, but right now, I might try these little guys out first!
