Are you ready to feel great in ‘08?

It is time for the RESOLUTIONS!! Ahhh, how many times have you written “lose weight” or “get in shape” on your yearly list? Probably more than you care to admit, right?

This year, I’m going for more specific health and fitness goals.
Instead of “losing weight”, I am going to resolve to lose 15 pounds by Memorial Day.

Instead of getting “in shape”, I’m resolving to run another half marathon before the end of the summer. The more specific the goal, the more likely we are to actually keep it. Sounds like fun, right?

Even better is that I’m documenting my goals on a big piece of poster board that I will hang in my dining room. (there is nothing else in there, so why not?!) This way I cannot claim “oh, I forget what I resolved to do….” because that list is going to look me in the eyes every morning! It is going to keep me honest. (You are welcome to help keep me honest too. Shoot me an email in a month or so and ask me how #5 is going!)

So here it is gang, my 2008 list of health and fitness resolutions.

  1. Lose 15 lbs of fat by Memorial Day
  2. Run a 1/2 marathon by Labor Day
  3. Eat an apple every time I find myself looking for a cookie, brownie, or candy. (if I’m still hungry after eating the apple, I will allow myself the treat)
  4. Eat at least one green vegetable with dinner
  5. Drink less diet soda. (I know that I cannot commit to kicking the habit entirely, so I’m giving myself some leeway on this one!)

What are yours?
and have you been active today?!

Happy New Year!

We have some of the same thoughts….
    1) I am gonna have to lose 10-15lbs to get into marathon shape
    2) One green veggie a day
    3) Eat just a little bit less
    4) One, and only one soda a day
    5) Bust a**, and try to qualify for Boston (I just don’t know if I can do it)

I especially like #3, the one about eating an apple instead of something sweet. My worst snacking time is in the evening, and I hate that. I went to the grocery store this afternoon and picked up apples and bananas — I want to be your partner on this one! Hopefully it works! :)

I like the manageable goals rather than the resolutions. One year is too long to hold myself accountable. I shooting for 5 pounds at a time. 5 pounds by my birthday, Feb. 3.

I also love your apple idea. I’m a cookie, cake, candy bar, chocolate lover. Mostly, I just don’t keep that stuff in the house, then it’s not around to tempt me. But eating an apple when I do want a treat is a great idea. And there are so many good apples: Braeburn, Fuji, Pink Lady, Honey Crisp, Gala… YUM!

Be kinder to myself and others

[...] Workout Mommy has made some very specific goals, and she knows exactly what to do so she’ll be faced with them all the time. Even better is that I’m documenting my goals on a big piece of poster board that I will hang in my dining room. (there is nothing else in there, so why not?!)
