Like I have said before, I am a huge fan of the TV show The Biggest Loser. It teaches the importance of healthy eating combined with exercise and I have yet to see a former contestant who has put the weight back on. (have you?)
I came across a feature over at Ivillage called ‘Lose Big’ where they interview the contestants that have been voted off. It is interesting to read through their interviews and I really liked what Ryan (who was voted off this week) had to say. He lost SEVENTY TWO pounds during his time on the show and has made a complete life change. Here is his advice:
5.) What advice can you give other people who are hoping to lose extra pounds? It kills me to write such clichéd ideas but there all true. My best advice is to approach your weight loss/fitness plan without the option of failure. Secondly, we never know what we’re capable of until we try. Everyday Bob, pushed each and every one of us to the brink mentally and physically, and we are all better for it. Challenge yourself everyday — challenge yourself to go a minute longer or one mph faster on the treadmill, it keeps things interesting and you’re guaranteed results that way. Also, I think anyone starting a weight-loss program needs to focus long term. Don’t beat yourself up for having bad food days or missing a gym day. It’s not so much about having good days, but about having good weeks, good months, good years and a great life. Lastly, and maybe most important is that you have to be ready for it. We all know we should eat well and workout, but it’s hardly ever fun so we really need to commit to a new lifestyle to reap the benefits of mental and physical health and longevity.
He breaks down all the issues that I, and maybe some of you, are faced with everyday.
Here is my personal version of Ryan’s advice:
- My plan will not have an option for failure. I will accomplish my goal.
- I need to challenge myself everyday. Do the extra pushups, even though I don’t like them!
- We all have bad days. The chocolate chips I ate today while baking “healthy” muffins will not cause me to scrap my entire plan for the day.
- I need to be mindful and aware of my goal. The pregnancy weight is not going to disappear on it’s own. I have to own up to it and work hard to make it change. No excuses.
Now it’s your turn.
Think about it, make a plan, and then stick it up on the fridge.
Were you active today? I hope so!

The biggest loser is an inspirational reality show. Rather than typing motivational quotes, picture of dress or my own fat pictures does a better job in motivating. Like the old adage, picture is worth a thousand words ;).

Ugh, I’m sick…I wanted to get up and run this morning, and I didn’t…I hate being sick, I feel like it just puts me giant steps backwards…
